Monday, 26 October 2026. We bring together the relevant facts of the last 24 hours, each checked against a primary or reliable source. The week opens with a change of pace at Strategy, new stablecoin rules in Canada, another tokenised money market fund and a security incident in India.

Markets and Strategy: no bitcoin purchases, preferred share buybacks instead

According to CoinGecko data checked on 26 October at 18:15 (Zurich time), bitcoin is trading around 80,400 US dollars, about 66,500 Swiss francs, down 0.4% over 24 hours, after an overnight low of about 79,400 dollars. Ether is around 2,330 dollars (-1.0%). The market is waiting for the Federal Open Market Committee meeting on 27 and 28 October.

In a Form 8-K filed today, Strategy reports that it neither bought nor sold bitcoin between 19 and 25 October and issued no shares under its at-the-market programme. Instead it repurchased 2,068,459 STRC preferred shares for 204.9 million dollars, funded from its own cash. The company holds about 848,517 bitcoin, bought at an average price of about 75,446 dollars. Its general cash balance falls to 242.4 million, while the reserve set aside for dividends and interest stays at 4.83 billion.

Bar chart of Strategy's weekly spending on bitcoin purchases and on buybacks of STRC preferred shares, in millions of US dollars, from Form 8-K filings: 21-27 September 142.7 and 151.7; 28 September-4 October 28.7 and 176.3; 5-11 October 21.5 and 192.4; 12-18 October 22.1 and 193.1; 19-25 October 0 and 204.9

Canada: draft stablecoin rules open for consultation

Canada's Department of Finance published in the Canada Gazette of 24 October the draft regulations needed to bring the Stablecoin Act into force; the consultation runs until 23 December. Issuers that are not financial institutions will have to register with the Bank of Canada, hold reserves at least equal to the stablecoins in circulation with a qualified Canadian custodian and redeem within three business days, with no minimum amount and fees of at most 1%. Paying interest for simply holding a stablecoin remains prohibited, while transaction-based rewards are allowed. The rules are expected to take effect in autumn 2027.

Tokenisation: Aviva Investors brings a sterling money market fund to the XRP Ledger

Aviva Investors and Ripple have announced a tokenised share class of the Aviva Investors Sterling Liquidity Fund, the firm's largest fund with about 22 billion pounds under management. It is an Ireland-domiciled UCITS money market fund: shares are represented on the XRP Ledger as a "digital twin", while the fund keeps its conventional structure and its assets are held by BNY Mellon. Aviva has invested 50 million pounds in the new class; together with the dollar class launched in July, its tokenised offering exceeds 86 million pounds. Access is limited to eligible investors with a digital wallet.

Security: CoinDCX absorbs a 16 million dollar loss

Indian exchange CoinDCX has confirmed a loss of 15.99 million USDT linked to an old wallet infrastructure that was compromised in the July 2025 incident and then retired. Some users kept sending funds to addresses no longer in use: the exchange credited them immediately, but the automated service meant to move them into its main wallets failed for a period, and the accumulated deposits were taken. The company absorbed the loss and, according to CoinDCX, customer balances and operations were not affected. According to CoinDesk, the exchange had initially called the reports a false alarm. The rule stands: always check the current deposit address before every transfer.
