Security: Binance puts the impact of an attack at about 6.3 billion dollars
Overnight from Thursday to Friday, Binance disclosed a security incident with an estimated impact of around 6.3 billion dollars. According to its initial investigation, a DevOps engineer's compromised laptop may have let an attacker reach a service container and submit unauthorised withdrawals; the company says it has found no evidence of a private key leak. About 3 billion has been frozen on-chain with the help of partners. Binance will cover all losses from its SAFU fund and its own resources, has suspended withdrawals while deposits run normally, and will publish an updated proof of reserves.
On Friday co-CEO Richard Teng said in a video that the investigation had found further points of breach and that the attacker used an EIP-7702 delegation to gain control of a hot wallet without going through normal approval controls. The aim is to reopen withdrawals by Sunday, only after security testing. The FBI confirmed it is aware of the incident. On-chain analysts quoted in the press link the attack to North Korean groups; there is no official attribution.

CoinGlass data cited by Cointelegraph show 1.56 billion in liquidations over 24 hours, 1.31 billion of them on long positions. Aave had paused new deposits and borrowing as a precaution and reopened its markets on Friday afternoon.

Hardware wallets: Trezor warns CryptoBilis buyers
On 28 October Trezor received a report of an extra circuit board, with a cellular module and an antenna, inside a Trezor Safe 5 bought in August through CryptoBilis, a former authorised reseller in Southeast Asia. According to the report, not yet verified in the lab, the board would read the screen, including the recovery phrase, and send it over a mobile network. Trezor treats it as credible, knows of no lost funds, and asks anyone who bought from CryptoBilis since March 2026 to move funds to a new wallet with a new seed, offering a replacement device.
Results: Coinbase returns to profit in the third quarter
Coinbase closed the third quarter with total revenue of 1.216 billion dollars, against 1.869 billion a year earlier. Net income was 718.7 million and includes 715.0 million in gains on crypto-assets held for investment; adjusted net income was 78 million.
